Minnit Organizations Are Here

Hello everyone.

Today, we are pleased to announce the long-anticipated release of Organizations.

As some of you may recall, we previously teased this new update just before the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since then, we’ve had to make time for the large influx of our customers shifting to the digital world, and keep up with the ever-evolving privacy demands that keep our users safe. However, now that we’ve had a pause from the chaos to focus on Organizations, we’re proud to say: It’s finally here.

What is an Organization on Minnit?

Minnit will allow you to create your own Organization and maintain full control of all user accounts, data, and more. Users who sign up within the chat will only exist in your Organization, and, upon your Organization being deleted, their information will also be removed after a set period of time as well. This way, the entire pool of usernames are available to you and your users, rather than having to be shared with all of Minnit.

You, as the Organization’s owner, will be able to set everything regarding account registration, including requiring users to activate their account, complete a CAPTCHA, or even be manually approved by you or your team.

Support for Single Sign On (SSO)

While Minnit currently supports owners passing along nicknames & profile photos to the iframe, support for SSO has been long requested — and for good reason. Allowing users to login to the chat using their existing accounts on your site will mean that, with a single login, they can have access to their ranks, DMs, friends, chat preferences, and more, from all of their devices — all without having to sign up to Minnit.

Single Sign-On supports both OAuth2 & SAML2 standards.

Managing Accounts

The Manage Accounts menu will allow you to view a list of all accounts that signed up, and directly manage them yourself.

Upon editing them, you will be able to access a variety of options:

This way, you will be in command of the user’s account, and can immediately assist them if they lose access to their account or need their username changed.

Additionally, you are able to grant others access to manage accounts, modify the organization, and more.

Organization Settings

Don’t have a site to embed the chat on? No problem. Organization Settings make it easy to manage your Organization and make everything feel right at home. By just giving it a name, uploading an icon, and writing some CSS…

All pages — including chat pages, registrations pages, etc. — will immediately match:

This way, even if you don’t want to embed the chat, you can still have as much control over the branding as you desire.

And, as mentioned last time: Owners looking to keep things simple will still be able to use the existing chatroom setup that they know and love. The choice is yours.

In the future, we plan on adding even more to Organizations, including the ability to point your existing domain to an Organization for maximum white label support.

We’ve also updated our WordPress plugin to support Single Sign-On Support for your existing users, so you can get started right away if your site is powered by WordPress.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us by opening a support ticket. We’d love to hear your feedback or answer questions.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the year, and a happy holiday season.

Happy chatting!
